From his early days as a young aspiring athlete to becoming the first African American to serve on the Minnesota Supreme Court, Page's journey is an inspiring tale of resilience, excellence, and social justice.

From Gridiron to Greatness

Born on August 7, 1945, in Canton, Ohio, Alan Cedric Page displayed immense talent and passion for football from a young age. Excelling both in the classroom and on the field, he attended Central Catholic High School, where he earned numerous accolades for his football prowess.

Page's remarkable skills earned him a scholarship to play football at the University of Notre Dame, one of the most prestigious college football programs in the country. He made an immediate impact as a defensive tackle and helped the Fighting Irish win the National Championship in 1966.

A New Chapter: The Pursuit of Justice

He successfully juggled his football commitments with his studies, proving his exceptional ability to excel in multiple fields simultaneously.

In 1978, Page retired from professional football and took his passion for justice to the next level. He ran for a seat on the Minnesota Supreme Court and won, becoming the first African American justice to serve in the state's highest court. Throughout his tenure, Page championed civil rights, equality, and fairness, leaving an indelible impact on the legal landscape of Minnesota.

Even after retiring from the court in 2015, Page continues to advocate for social justice and educational opportunities through the Page Education Foundation, which he co-founded with his late wife Diane Sims Page. The foundation provides scholarships and mentorship to students of color, ensuring that they have the resources and support necessary to achieve their dreams.

All Rise is the authorized biography of this remarkable man, a man who became a pioneer for his race without setting out to be one. He grew up in Canton, Ohio, in the shadow of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, into which he would later be inducted after his stellar NFL career. After leading Notre Dame to a national championship in 1966 and earning All-America honors, he became a first-round draft choice of the Minnesota Vikings in 1967. A six-time All-Pro for the Vikes, where he led the team to four conference titles, he was named the NFL's MVP in 1971, the first defensive player (and one of only two in the 54 year history of the award) to be so honored. With Carl Eller, Jim Marshall, and Gary Larson, the famed "Purple People Eaters" gained immortality as they set the gold standard for defensive linemen. During his fifteen year NFL career, Page played in 218 consecutive games, and recorded 178 sacks.
